As a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary surgeons and Master student in One Health, I would like to express my profound concerns regarding the WHO-pandemic treaty and IHR amendments.
My concerns come from my observations of the harms done by Public Health and Governments from March 2020, by implementing topdown general measures and fear to try and contain a respiratory virus.
These measures caused and are still causing tremendous harm at individual and societal level. Fear, isolation and reduction of exercise were implemented, rather than re-assurance and advice on how to keep healthy. The fact that these measures ultimately made no discernible difference (as proven by Sweden’s approach to this pandemic) make it even more galling.
Scientists were censored and public debate was made impossible.
It is my opinion that global measures do not work at local and individual level. This is demonstrated time and time again when looking at top down measures in the One Health System. The individual, providing he/she is given nuanced information and advice, is generally best suited to work out that will be in their best interest in their particular circumstances.
It is clear that these measures have also resulted in a marked reduction in trust in the medical profession, politicians, main stream media and Public Health amongst a subset of the public.
I therefore do not consent to the implementation of a Global Pandemic plan, which gives tremendous power to an unelected international body.
By all means, keep this international body as an advisory and monitoring body, but do not enable this global organisation making authoritarian decisions over the general public.
On an aside, the issue is even more worrying because the definition of a pandemic was changed from a 'global infectious disease that causes significant disease and death' to a 'global infectious disease that has the potential to cause significant disease’. This leaves the door open to the declaration of a pandemic based on poor scientific evidence, such as was demonstrated by the declaration of the Monkey pox pandemic.
I am more than happy to have a conversation to explore this further. I am just extremely concerned that Public Health and Global Health is heading in completely the wrong direction.
