California has too many representatives. Illegal aliens should not be counted in any district.

Illegals should not be counted when setting up districts by population.

This should not be allowed. They only leave the weak, go along to get along, republicans. This is Communist California because of the decades of democrat control; we have no voice if we are conservative.

Just give it back to the fucking Mexicans they all live there anyway we don’t need it. I don’t need any fucking avocados or almonds. And I certainly don’t need a greasy haired cocksucker like that anywhere near the rest of us. Thank you.

Raise your hand if you think for one minute that the election results will not be rigged. Of course they will win; they always win.

Redistricting Is a farce. The Dems already rule CA. Newsom is insane and just looking for a spot light. The man is a fool and will try anything to get publicity.

James, you do have a very venomous following... kind of surprised. This redistricting plan is not good, for the people, may be great to keep blue/red in power... and continue to ignore the people

Thanks for this. I was actually referring to his presidency run. Sorry about that!

It's all about POWER for the Democrats. What a corrupt politician. WE NEED TERM LIMITS more than ever. Governor Gavin Newscum needs to realize that his days as a politician are numbered! California is a S Hole and it's because of the Democrat Policies that have destroyed it. I live in CO, and we've been inundated with Californians. Problem is... that they moved and now vote Dem here in CO and have moved from the firepan into the FIRE! Colorado has gone downhill horribly! Our governor Jared Polis may run for President at some point. He had a restraining order put on him for shoving a gal against some file cabinets years ago. His real name is JARED SCHUTZ! Look it up!

We have term limits for governor in California. Newsom cannot run for a third term.

Hah! But will the vote be messed with just like Grusomes recalls:/

Gerrymandering based on ethnicity has got to stop. It is a racist practice. Districts should be divided based on population number to give all residents equal representation.

The game is already rigged, but these redistricting amendments make the game even more rigged. They tried this here in Ohio, thankfully it didn't pass. It will likely pass in CA though and the "left mafia" will maintain even more control. It doesn't matter though...either faction of the mafia takes us to the same place, they use different tactics.

And in CA, counting mail-in ballots continues beyond Election Day until the Demonrat candidate gets enough votes to win.

My opinion? My opinion is that Team Red and Team Blue are nothing but different ends of the same turd. If politicians are doing something, no matter what it is, it's for their own benefit, not the benefit of the citizenry. By definition and design, gerrymandering disenfranchises a given number of voters in the old district, the new one, or both. Fairness and objectivity would require that voting districts in every state be drawn by overlaying a grid pattern on the place and being done with it.

Allie's avatar

100%. Districts equally divided by population number.

Fager 132's avatar

Actually I was thinking it would be more fair if the population within a district were random, which is what would happen with a grid overlay system. A district might end up with 5 people in it or 500,000, but it wouldn't be susceptible to gerrymandering, at least. In theory the current system is supposed to divide districts roughly by population, but that gives the two sides latitude for the kind of cheating that defines gerrymandering: The new district still has X number of people in it, and it's just too tough that they're now mostly on the team that favors the incumbents who are drawing the lines.

The ultimate solution would be to get the government out of virtually every aspect of people's lives and return to the Founders' intent of a constitutionally limited republic. Then geography wouldn't matter because politicians would be powerless to meddle.

My 1st thought, also, was a grid, but then I thought, as you noted, some districts might only have a tiny population while others would be massive. The point I think we agree on is to take the subjectivity out of it and the political self-serving gymnastics out of it.
